most of the tunes here were originally written for the band three cane whale, and so would not exist without the inspiration of my 3CW fellows, alex vann & paul bradley. These versions are the bare bones of, the monochrome templates for, 3CW's multi-instrumental full-colour renderings

music from this album features in adam laity's "a short film about ice" (winner of 'best short film' at belgrade greenfest 2020 and 'best climate emergency film' at the ahrc research in film awards 2020). 'sluice' was used in the cinema trailer for the 2022 feature film "long way back' (dir. brett harvey). 'gospel pass' was arranged for saxophone and string quartet by sophie stockham, and performed in st george's bristol in september 2022
